Nectar Prices have made the Nectar Card essential for any Sainsbury’s shop. Think of Nectar Points as a 0.5% bonus and use JamDoughnut (referral code CTUI for £2 free) for additional instant Sainsbury’s cashback - Andrew Cunningham (Capital Matters Editor)

How To Join Nectar Card
You can join Nectar card in-store or at Nectar.com but I’d recommend registering via the app. The app displays your point balance, offers, account activity and Nectar Card.
I’d also recommend adding your Nectar Card to your smartphone wallet.
Earning Nectar Points
You’ll usually get 1 Nectar Point Per £1 Spent at Sainsbury’s but Nectar have tonnes of partners and extra ways to boost your points.
Boost Your Nectar Points With Sainsbury’s Offers
Sainsbury’s offers can be found through the Nectar app. These offers grant you extra Nectar points when you buy specific items (based on your previous shopping habits). You’ll get these in addition to the standard 1 Point/£1 Spent.
Offers need to be individually saved to your card first and you can take advantage of them whether you’re shopping in-store, online or via SmartShop.
Boost Your Nectar Points With Partner Brands
You can earn Nectar Points when you buy from other partner brands, not just Sainsbury's. In each case, you’ll have to link your Nectar Card account.
Partner brands include:
eBay - Link to Nectar
Argos - Link to Nectar
Esso - Link Via The Esso App or Swipe Nectar Card at Checkout
Avanti West Coast - Link to Nectar
Great Western Railway - Link to Nectar
Boost Your Nectar Points With Partner Offers
Nectar Partner Offers change more frequently and offer bonus Nectar points and discounts when your spend with hundreds of retailers. Partner Offers usually offer fixed point amounts (eg. +1000 Nectar Points) or higher point earning rates (eg. 5x Nectar Points).
Boost Your Nectar Points With MyMail
If you’re a Daily Mail reader, you can collect up to 50 Nectar points per week.
Monday - Friday: 5 Points
Saturday: 10 Points
Sunday: 15 Points
Subscribers to The Ultimate or Premium Pack will see their Nectar Points doubled each month (up to 250 points) and Digital Edition subscribers, instead of the above, will get 50 Nectar points each month their subscription remains active.
Codes will remain active until midnight four days after the paper publish date.
Want MyMail Nectar points without buying a paper? At Waitrose, Spend £10 in store or £40 online and you’ll get a free newspaper. If you select the Mail, you can grab the extra Nectar points.
Boost Your Nectar Points With Nectar Canvass
With Nectar Canvass, you can complete surveys to earn Nectar points. Personally, I’d recommend Prolific over a survey site like Nectar Canvass. Prolific pay cash, obviously much more flexible than Nectar points, and you’ll earn a lot more for the same time spent.
What Happened To Nectar Connect?
Nectar Connect, which allowed users to link their debit and credit cards to Nectar to earn points with participating retailers, closed on the 27th October 2023.
Can You Claim Nectar Points From A Sainsbury's Receipt
Yes, but you have to claim Nectar Points from a receipt within 14 days from your purchase date. To get your Nectar Points added to your account, just present your receipt and Nectar Card at the Sainsbury’s Customer Service Desk.
How Much Are Nectar Points Worth?
One Nectar Point is usually worth 0.5 pence per point. Use the Nectar Point value calculator further down the page to work out how much your Nectar points are worth.
Since you usually earn 1 Nectar point per £1 spent, that means you’ll normally get 0.5% back on your purchase. To make the most of Nectar, you’re going to have to take full advantage of Sainsbury’s offers, Partner offers and more.
Where can you spend Nectar points with the standard value of 0.5p/Nectar Point? Options include:
Sainsbury’s Vouchers
Argos
eBay
Nectar Hotels
Dulux Decorator Centre
Habitat
Viking
Brakes
Eurostar
Alternatively, you can increase the value of your Nectar points by redeeming them with a few select partners. However, these options only make sense if you think they’ll provide value to you, in your specific situation:
British Airways Avios - 1.6 Avios Points/Nectar Point
Caffe Nero - 1 Hot or Iced Drink/350 Nectar Points
Sky Store Films (Sky TV Not Required) - 0.57p/Point
How To Check Your Nectar Point Balance
You can check your Nectar point balance online via the Nectar website or via the Nectar app.

Enter your Nectar Point total in the calculator below to work out the value of your Nectar Points. This is based on a standard Nectar Point redemption value of 0.5p/Point.
Is Nectar Double Up Still Around?
The Nectar Double Up promo was cancelled as of 2021. This coincided with the launch of ‘My Nectar Prices’, which you can see details of below.
What was Nectar Double Up? Every year in late October, for the past several years, Sainsbury’s customers could double the value of their Nectar points (1p/Point as opposed to 0.5p/Point). Shoppers would effectively get vouchers at half the normal Nectar point cost. Vouchers could then be used to buy Sainsbury’s products, with the exclusion of food.
The timing worked out well as customers could redeem points for some early Christmas shopping. However, Sainsbury’s criticised the complexity of the system and so launched the year-round ‘My Nectar Prices’ instead.
Guide To 'Nectar Prices'
Sainsbury’s are offering 15%-60% off with ‘Nectar Prices’ on non-Sainsbury’s branded food staples, household goods, pet food, confectionary and more. The discounts are only available to Nectar cardholders in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, not smaller stores.
You’ll see ‘Nectar Prices’ on specific products in-store and online. To get ‘Nectar Prices’:
In-Store - Scan your Nectar Card at checkout
Online - Link Nectar Card to Sainsbury’s account and shop online as normal
Do You Still Earn Nectar Points on ‘Nectar Prices’ Products?
Yes! You’ll get the Nectar Price discount and you’ll earn Nectar points at the normal rate.
What About ‘Your Nectar Prices’?
‘Your Nectar Prices’ are weekly personalised discounts on 10 products when your shop via the SmartShop App or Handset in-store (not online). This offering is still available meaning SmartShop shoppers can bag more discounted products.
‘Nectar Prices’ and ‘Your Nectar Prices’ discounts don’t combine but you’ll always get the cheapest price, even if the non-discounted price is cheaper.
Register for ‘Your Nectar Prices’ through the SmartShop App or Handset in-store and view your personalised discounts on the Nectar App. You’ll earn Nectar Points on those products too.
Do Nectar Points Expire?
Thankfully, Nectar points don’t expire. According to Sainsbury’s, Nectar points will only be lost if an account is closed or the Nectar programme ends. Vouchers that you’ve purchased with Nectar points will expire but expiry dates vary (you’ll find voucher expiration dates on the voucher itself).
£2 + Sainsbury's Instant Cashback With JamDoughnut
Whilst Nectar points are equivalent to around 0.5% cashback, you can actually get much more Sainsbury’s cashback using the JamDoughnut cashback app.
Download the app and enter referral code CTUI to get 200 points (worth £2) when you 1st use the app. Then buy a Sainsbury’s eGift Card through JamDoughnut to get instant cashback. You can redeem the gift card in-store or online. Read the Sainsbury’s Gift Card T&Cs here.
